History of Galil

Galil Motion Control achieved a milestone by entering into its 30th year of developing and manufacturing controllers. With over 750,000 controllers shipped world-wide, Galil remains a leading innovator in the field of motion control. In 1983 Galil developed the world’s first microprocessor-based servo motion controller and has continued to develop leading-edge controllers to meet the demanding requirements of advanced technology.

Today Galil is shipping its 5th generation of motion controllers based on a powerful, 32-bit RISC based processor. Modes of motion include point-to-point positioning, linear and circular interpolation, electronic gearing, electronic cam, and position following. Features include PID tuning with notch filter, velocity and acceleration feedforward, non-volatile memory for storing programs, variables and arrays, and plenty of I/O for interfacing to external sensors. Galil’s two-letter, intuitive command language and software tools make programming controllers quick and easy.

The current generation of Galil controllers includes the multi-axis high-speed Accelera Series, the low-cost Econo Series, the compact single-axis DMC-30000 Series and the Pocket PLC Series.
The Accelera family of controllers is Galil’s highest performing controllers. They process commands 10 times faster than prior generation controllers, offer servo loop updates as high as 32 kHz and accept encoders up to 22 MHz. The DMC-40x0 is a packaged motion controller for 1-8 axes that can be purchased with internal stepper or servo drives. An external Ethernet switch built into the DMC 40x0 provides two Ethernet ports for easy daisy-chaining of multiple units. The Accelera Series is also available in PCI format for bus-based systems.

The Econo Series offers high performance at the lowest cost. The DMC-41x3 is a packaged motion controller for 1-8 axes that can be purchased with internal stepper or servo drives. It is not quite as fast as the Accelera Series but is suitable for many applications. See Table xx below to compare the features and performance of the Accelera and Econo Series.

The DMC-30000 Single-Axis Controller Series is Galil’s latest generation motion controller designed for single-axis applications. Its compact size and internal motor drive make it a cost-effective choice for applications where space is a premium.

The RIO Pocket PLC Series are Galil’s line of compact, intelligent I/O controllers. Models are available with up to 48 digital I/O, 16 analog I/O, two Ethernet ports, and program memory
